Pat Stay, acclaimed Canadian battle rapper, fatally stabbed | CNN



Rapper Pat Stay has died after a stabbing incident in Nova Scotia, Canada, according to regional police. He was 36.

The incident happened early Sunday morning in downtown Halifax. Police discovered Stay with stab wounds and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he later died. Halifax Regional Police said in a statement:.

They’re investigating the case as murder. No arrests have been made yet.

Several hip-hop stars took to social media to pay their respects to Stay.

Fellow Canadian artist Drake commented on a recent song Stay released, writing, “Pat Stay is definitely one of, if not, the best.”

Stay was the father of two young children. A GoFundMe campaign, verified by the platform, has been set up for his family to help with funeral expenses.

“He was taken from the world far too soon and many will be devastated forever,” reads a message from the campaign organizer. “Pat Stay was a very honorable man who was on his way to a bright future. Our hearts aches for his family and friends right now, so we hope to ease some of the pain by ensuring his family is helped through this process.”

In a 2020 interview with Canadian publication the SignalStay spoke about his work ethic and gave his advice to aspiring artists.

“If you make a beat, let it go and make 5,000 more. If you’ve got about 10 songs and you think they’re good, well, make a lot more,” said Stay. “The best people in this industry work hard every day. It’s a grind.”
